3-layer principle in household lighting design

 

Ambient lighting

This is the first lighting layer when designing household lighting for a room. Ambient lighting ensures that the amount of light is evenly distributed and diffused in the space, providing the overall illumination of the room.

Task lighting

This layer helps to illuminate more details on selected areas to work with specific tasks (living room table, kitchen counter, reading table, dressing table, etc.)


 

Accent lighting

This layer of decorative light is more focused on the subject, where accent lighting is the finishing touch to make the room more interesting. Use light to highlight a collection, artwork, architectural detail, or anything else you want to draw attention to.

Household lighting design process

 

 

Step 1: Design a room plan (in length, width, height, windows, doors, etc.) and the location of furniture in the room (tables, chairs, cabinets, fans, bulletin boards, printers, etc.)

Step 2: Determine the lighting layers in the room:

  • Ambient lighting: Overall lighting in the room to relax and socialize.
  • Task lighting: Bright, direct light for work, reading, and hobby spaces.
  • Accent lighting: Concentrated bright lights to create decorative accents.

Step 3: Determine the type of lamp used to create the lighting layers:

Step 4: Select the right product with the following factors:

  • Use space (living room, bedroom, outdoor, etc.)
  • Lighting needs and purposes (Needs: relax, focus, casual, mix) (Purposes: working, reading, receiving guests, resting, mix)
  • Light color: Yellow - cozy, neutral - multi-purpose, white - focus, color changing - 3 colors, color changing - RGB, etc.
  • Extra features: Dimmable, sensor, voice control, wireless control, etc.
  • Additional built-in space: bookshelves, paintings, display items, wine cabinets, etc.
